Erin O’Toole so-called candidate of “truth, duty, and valour” won’t respond to Rebel News’ questions

With the 2021 federal election now in the home stretch, is Erin O’Toole feeling the pressure? Justin Trudeau had a disastrous campaign whereas the O’Toole camp performed quite well (if we can ignore the grotesque flip-flops on everything from gun bans to carbon taxes.) And yet, the Liberals and the Conservatives are in a statistical dead-heat.

On Sunday afternoon, O’Toole dropped by Markham, Ont., for a rally. The attendance could be measured in the dozens, making a Joe Biden rally look Trumpian by comparison.

Still, I wanted to ask Mr. O’Toole a few questions. After all, some 13 months ago, Erin O’Toole had all the time in the world for Rebel News reports at the Independent Press Gallery debate in Toronto. But that was then and this is now: copying the strategy of Andrew “Missing an Empty Net on a Breakaway” Scheer, Erin O’Toole considers Rebel News (and our 1.5+ million YouTube audience) to be media and audience non grata. Meanwhile, just like Scheer, he sucks up to the mean girls in the Media Party such as the CBC and the Toronto Star, media outlets that hate the Conservatives. (Is this not the textbook definition of insanity?)

So it was that when we arrived at the Markham industrial park to cover the rally, my camerawoman and I were told to beat it by Cory Hann (who had previously frog-marched my colleague, Alexa Lavoie, out of another Conservative Party event.) Hann claims we are “disruptive” but could not provide a single example of “disruptions.”

We were told to leave the parking lot and even the berm; so it was we had to do our reporting while standing on a busy street! (At least Mr. Hann was kind enough to remind us to watch out for vehicles zooming by at 70 km/h.)

Meanwhile, the Erin O’Toole bus was moved three times as the Conservative Party’s fearless leader cowered in fear inside the coach for more than 30 minutes! Why? Because a pesky Rebel News reporter might ask him some impolite questions?

Well, he was correct on that front. For when he finally slithered out of his bus, I shouted a few questions from the road. Namely:

  • Why are you stiffing Rebel News?
  • Likewise, why did you stiff Jordan Peterson?
  • Why are you in a statistical tie with the scandal-plagued Liberals?
  • Why did you throw Lisa Robinson, the former candidate for Beaches East York who was allegedly framed on social media, under the bus after previously stating you “had her back”?

Alas, no answers were forthcoming.

And to think that mere months ago Erin O’Toole billed himself as the “pro-free speech/anti-cancel culture” candidate? Astonishing…

CBS Scoffs at Texas’s Law as Defending ‘So-Called Fetal Heartbeat’

CBS This Morning on Thursday reacted to the big, breaking news that the Supreme Court has refused to halt Texas’s bill banning abortion after six weeks. Reporter Ben Tracy dismissed it as stopping abortion “once a so-called fetal heartbeat is detected.” He also spun the move by the Court’s conservatives as “contradictory” and “stunning” to liberals.

Co-host Vlad Duthiers blared, “Abortion rights supporters are protesting the law, calling it unconstitutional.” Reporter Ben Tracy dismissed, “The Texas law bans abortions once a so-called ‘fetal heartbeat’ is detected, usually around six weeks. It also seemingly contradicts the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, which guarantees abortion until fetal viability, which is about 22 to 24 weeks.”

“Talk about heartless. So-called? What would Tracy have us call the heartbeat of an unborn child?”

He cited one of the liberal dissents without reading from the unsigned conservative majority: “In her dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor called the Court’s decision stunning. She says this Texas law flouts nearly 50 years of federal precedent.”

To his credit, Tracy did feature two interview clips with Elizabeth Graham, the vice president of Texas’s Right to Life. She presented an upcoming abortion case at the Supreme Court as a choice:

The justices will either have to strike down Roe or say that life can be protected at this stage. And if life can be protected at this stage, we thereby concede that Roe was a judicial concoction and is no longer the law or precedent of the land.

On Wednesday, the networks breathlessly huffed about the “uproar” over the “controversial” law, “one of the strictest bans in the country.”

CBS This Morning

9/2/2021

VLAD DUTHIERS: We have breaking news overnight from the Supreme Court. In a 5-4 vote, the Court refused to block a new Texas law that is the most restrictive abortion law in the country. Chief Justice Roberts sided with the Court’s three liberals. The Court’s decision does not prevent it from considering this case in the future. Abortion rights supporters are protesting the law, calling it unconstitutional. Ben Tracy is outside the Supreme Court. Ben, good morning.

BEN TRACY: Vlad, good morning. In her dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor called the Court’s decision stunning. She says this Texas law flouts nearly 50 years of federal precedent. But for now, this Texas law which bans abortion after just six weeks of pregnancy, which is before most women even know they are pregnant, will remain in place.

PROTESTERS: Hands off my body!

TRACY: Abortion rights protesters outside the Texas state Capitol vowed to keep fighting.

SARAH ECKHARDT (D-TX): It is our right, our individual right, to choose whether and when we are going to have children.

TRACY: Across Texas, abortion providers warn they may have to close their doors. And that the new law will only lead to illegal and dangerous abortions.

KATHY KLEINFIELD (Houston Women’s Reproductive Services Administrator): Medical professionals, clergy members that were around before Roe v. Wade in ’73, can tell you the horror stories.

TRACY: The Texas law bans abortions once a so-called ‘fetal heartbeat’ is detected, usually around six weeks. It also seemingly contradicts the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, which guarantees abortion until fetal viability, which is about 22 to 24 weeks. The Texas law also allows any private citizen to sue someone getting an abortion, which includes doctors, clinic staff or even someone who drives a woman to a clinic. Those who win a lawsuit can be awarded at least $10,000.

ELIZABETH GRAHAM (Texas Right to Life VP): Those are the ones who are breaking the law who will be found liable for their criminal activity.

TRACY: Elizabeth Graham is President of Texas Right to Life. She says anti-abortion activists are now focused on a Mississippi case that the Supreme Court will hear this fall that could overturn Roe v. Wade.

GRAHAM: The justices will either have to strike down Roe or say that life can be protected at this stage. And if life can be protected at this stage, we thereby concede that Roe was a judicial concoction and is no longer the law or precedent of the land.

TRACY: Now that Mississippi law bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy and supporters of that law are hoping the conservative majority here at the Supreme Court will use it to overturn Roe v. Wade. Tony?

Pentagon Refuses to Name So-Called ‘High-Profile’ ISIS Planners Killed in Drone Strike

More lies and propaganda from the Biden regime to make it look like Joe Biden is ‘fighting back.’

The Pentagon on Saturday refused to release the names of the so-called ‘high-profile’ ISIS planners killed in a single drone strike Friday evening.

TRENDING: Joe Biden Arrives at Dover Air Base to Greet Plane Carrying Remains of 13 Dead Servicemen and Women from Kabul Bombing

Central Command said Friday night that the U.S. had conducted a drone strike against ISIS in response to the Islamist terrorist group’s suicide bomber attack at the Kabul airport Thursday that killed 13 U.S. service members.

The Pentagon is claiming two high-profile terrorists were killed and one other was wounded.

“I can confirm, as more information has come in, that two high-profile ISIS targets were killed and one was wounded,” Major General Hank Taylor said on Saturday.

However, Biden’s Pentagon refused to release their names.

Reddit Rejects Calls to Censor So-Called COVID-19 ‘Misinformation’

In a blow to Big Tech, Reddit is refusing to censor so-called “misinformation” about COVID-19, instead choosing to allow “debate, dissent, and protest.”

The online platform is well-known for its users who have anonymous usernames to discuss a wide range of topics, such as politics, sports, video games and more.

Reddit has previously faced criticism for caving to the left and censoring content, including banning “r/The_Donald, r/ChapoTrapHouse, and about 2,000 other communities,” according to The Verge June 29, 2020. The platform also suspended over 7,000 subreddits for alleged “hate” content, despite Reddit’s acknowledgement that it is not always able to identify precisely what “hate” means.

Now, Reddit is going against the recent social media platform trends that censor alleged misinformation about COVID-19 and its vaccines. Reddit Co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman said in a statement that “dissent” is a big part of the platform and “the foundation of democracy.”

“We appreciate that not everyone agrees with the current approach to getting us all through the pandemic, and some are still wary of vaccinations,” a statement posted by Huffman reads, adding:

Dissent is a part of Reddit and the foundation of democracy. Reddit is a place for open and authentic discussion and debate. This includes conversations that question or disagree with popular consensus. This includes conversations that criticize those that disagree with the majority opinion. This includes protests that criticize or object to our decisions on which communities to ban from the platform.

Huffman continued later in the statement:

When it comes to COVID-19 specifically, what we know and what are the current best practices from authoritative sources, like the CDC, evolve continuously with new learnings. Given the rapid state of change, we believe it is best to enable communities to engage in debate and dissent, and for us to link to the CDC wherever appropriate. While we believe the CDC is the best and most up to date source of information regarding COVID-19, disagreeing with them is not against our policies.

The news came after Facebook said it would censor so-called COVID-19 misinformation after pressure from the Biden administration mounted.

Platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have been under immense pressure from the left to censor any and all posts that purportedly contain “misinformation” about the coronavirus. Indeed, President Joe Biden blamed Facebook for “killing people” by allowing what his administration deemed “misinformation” to spread on the platform.

“There’s about 12 people who are producing 65% of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said at the time.

Conservatives are under attack. Contact the Reddit admin and demand that the platform mirror the First Amendment: Tech giants should afford their users nothing less than the free speech and free exercise of religion embodied in the First Amendment as interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court. Facebook Caves to White House Pressure, CENSORS So-Called COVID-19 Misinfo on Platform

Facebook is taking action after pressure from the White House. The Biden administration blamed the platform for the majority of coronavirus “misinformation.”

The news comes after the White House blamed accounts on the platform for spreading misinformation.

“There’s about 12 people who are producing 65% of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

“In the middle of a pandemic, being honest and transparent about the work that needs to be done to protect public health is absolutely vital, but Facebook still refuses to be straightforward about how much misinformation is circulating — and being actively promoted — on their platform,” a White House spokesperson told CNN Business.

“It’s on everyone to get this right so we can make sure the American people are getting accurate information to protect the health of themselves and their loved ones — which is why the Administration will continue to push leaders, media outlets, and leading sources of information like Facebook to meet those basic expectations,” the spokesperson continued.

Facebook’s Vice President of content policy, Monika Bickert, said the company is taking action against accounts that promote “disinformation,” but that focusing on the 12 accounts alone  “misses the forest for the trees.”

“Any amount of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation that violates our policies is too much by our standards — and we have removed over three dozen Pages, groups and Facebook or Instagram accounts linked to these 12 people, including at least one linked to each of the 12 people, for violating our policies,” she said.

Still, Facebook has not removed every account linked to the original 12 accounts, saying that “the remaining accounts associated with these individuals are not posting content that breaks our rules, have only posted a small amount of violating content, which we’ve removed, or are simply inactive.”

Some argue pressure from the federal government should classify Big Tech social media platforms as “state actors.” Facebook has received criticism from both Republicans and Democrats. Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) have both slammed Facebook for censorship and what they argue are unfair moderation practices.

Vivek Ramaswamy, founder of Roivant Sciences and a Philanthropy Roundtable board member, said that social media platforms should abide by the First Amendment or lose their immunity under Section 230.

“It’s time to amend Section 230. Either you operate like a normal company, without the federal blanket of immunity, or you agree to abide by the First Amendment in return for that immunity. Tech companies can’t have it both ways,” he tweeted in January.

“This is really state action in the clothing of private enterprise, and state action even if it is dressed up as private enterprise is still state action,” he told Fox News. “That’s why we argue it’s a First Amendment violation.”

Conservatives are under attack. Contact your representatives and demand that Big Tech be held to account to mirror the First Amendment while providing transparency, clarity on “hate speech” and equal footing for conservatives. CDC offered plan for internment camps in so-called ‘shielding’ initiative

“No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” – Matthew 6:24

In the lead-up to their meeting in mid-June, we call on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to exclude Joe Biden and other “Catholic” politicians (like, Nancy Pelosi) from Holy Communion over their public, obstinate, and scandalous promotion of abortion.

Please SIGN and SHARE this petition which asks the USCCB to act to stop the abuse of the reception of the Holy Eucharist by politicians who promote the murder of innocent pre-born babies.

We know that making a decision to exclude public figures from Holy Communion is not easy. But, sometimes, this is the only way to make them understand the error of their ways, and to preserve the Church from serious scandal.

Indeed, Canon Law (Canon 915) declares that those who persist in manifest, grave sin should not be admitted to Holy Communion

Beyond that, at this point, public excommunication appears as the only suitable response for Biden’s obstinate, public and grave sin of promoting abortion.

In doing so, we do not hold ourselves up as judges over Joe Biden’s eternal soul, but we encourage the bishops to make known one of the consequences of public and obstinate support of abortion by our ‘Catholic’ politicians.

The fact is, in terms of the manifest, grave sin of abortion, Joe Biden is as bad as he said he would be before the election.

Therefore, it is cold comfort that the USCCB is only preparing to discuss this issue only now.

But even now, if the USCCB publicly excommunicate Biden for his pro-abortion stance (as well as other pro-abortion politicians), the Conference could reclaim some of the moral authority which they lost by their largely silent assent to Biden’s candidacy.

Please SIGN and SHARE this petition, now.

Since Joe Biden was sworn-in on the 20th of January, he has wasted no time in signing orders and bills which facilitate the destruction of unborn human life.

  • In one executive order, Biden rescinded the Mexico City Policy prohibiting the federal government from spending taxpayer monies on abortion and the promotion of abortion.
  • Biden also signed (instead of vetoing) the COVID relief bill, which, for the first time in 44 years, contained funding for abortions in America, using taxpayer dollars.
  • Biden said that he wouldn’t defend Hyde, and he hasn’t.

And, if he and the Democratic Party get their way, a lot more of the same regarding abortion is on the way.

Strong action must be taken lest anyone, especially young people, be confused by the scandal of a “Catholic” in Biden’s position aggressively promoting abortion, enabling the killing of innocent human beings.

American rank-and-file Catholics don’t want any more compromise and equivocation from the Bishops Conference on this “pre-eminent” life-and-death issue.

We want clear action, not twenty more years of dithering and “dialoguing.”

50 million babies have been lost to abortion in the U.S. since Roe!

So, we will NOT accept any more lives lost as a result of dithering and “dialoguing.” [**Please see “Notes” below about how it has been reported that some senior U.S. clerics are trying to prevent this discussion from even taking place.]

And, we will especially NOT accept one life lost to abortion by politicians who claim the Catholic Faith, but who promote grave evil. God forbid!

With all due respect to these bishops, they diminish the Holy Eucharist and their high office, as well as cause grave scandal to the faithful, by not imposing public canonical penalties on a man who is promoting mass murder of the unborn against the constant teaching of the Church.

The bishops are now at a crossroads and must choose either God or mammon.

We call on them to choose God and choose Life!

And we also continue to encourage those brave, true and good bishops who have done well to warn Amercian Catholics about the perils to the unborn and the Faith resulting from Biden’s promotion of abortion!

SIGN and SHARE this petition, which asks the bishops of the United States to act in unison to exclude Joe Biden from Holy Communion for his scandalous promotion of abortion – the murder of the innocent.

After signing, please take a moment to CONTACT the offices of the USCCB to politely, but firmly, encourage the Conference to take the necessary steps to exclude from Holy Communion public officials who continue to show blatant disregard for innocent human life and the Church’s teaching.

The USCCB’s Office phone number is: 202.541.3000

Notes about USCCB’s June Meeting:

For nearly twenty years, the US bishops have been dithering about whether or not to excommunicate pro-abortion politicians by formally withholding Holy Communion from them.

Their indecision on this gravely scandalous matter is a scandal in itself, but one of the biggest obstacles has been internal opposition from senior U.S. bishops.

And, although the faces have changed in the last 20 years, their morally-and-intellectually-challenged arguments against excommunication have not changed.

Liberal bishops of the USCCB say that excommunicating Biden (for example) would divide the Church, divide the bishops, and would politicize the reception of Holy Communion.

Indeed, in the name of “unity,” it is reported that some senior U.S. clerics, including Cardinal Blase Cupich (Chicago), Cardinal Wilton Gregory (Washington, DC) and Cardinal O’Malley (Boston), have been working overtime to prevent any substantial discussion of so-called “Eucharist coherence” (that is, what qualifies as worthy reception of Holy Communion).

It is also reported that at least 57 other American bishops allegedly joined these Cardinals in a recent letter to the Head of the Bishops Conference, Archbishop Gomez of Los Angeles, to try to pressure him to drop the planned discussion at the full meeting of bishops in June.

And now, even the Vatican is getting involved, with the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith suggesting that even more “dialogue” is needed.

These same clerics may mistakenly believe that any attempt to suppress the objective connection between a politician’s promotion of abortion and his unworthy reception of Holy Communion will fool anyone.

But, it will not.

Rank-and-file Catholics are not stupid and can smell compromise a mile away, and we’ve had enough.

With all due respect to the Cardinal, bishops, and the Vatican…those who fail to act diminish the Holy Eucharist and their high office, as well as cause grave scandal to the faithful, by “dialoguing” with a man who is promoting mass murder of the unborn against the constant teaching of the Church.

Please SIGN and SHARE this urgent petition urging the bishops Conference to take action at their June meeting to exclude pro-abortion Joe Biden and other abortion-promoting “Catholic” politicians from Holy Communion.

CENSORED! White House Tries to Silence So-Called COVID Disinformation

*** UPDATE ***

The Biden administration continued its rampage against what it deems to be “misinformation” about COVID-19. White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced that the administration is “flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation” to blatantly use Big Tech to censor Americans.

This was the second day in a row where Psaki admitted the administration is either considering or taking action against free speech. Today surgeon general Dr. Vivek Murthy declared he was “urging all Americans to help slow the spread of health misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.” Murthy warned in a massive advisory that such “health misinformation is a serious threat to public health.”

Psaki followed that up with the fact that the Surgeon General’s Office is “flagging posts for Facebook that spread disinformation.” She said the administration has a four-point plan to restrict COVID-19 content it didn’t agree with.

She explained that, “there’s also proposed changes that we have made to social media platforms, including Facebook, and those specifically are four key steps.” Those included publicly sharing the impact of “misinformation”; “a robust enforcement strategy”; “faster action against harmful posts”; and promoting “quality information sources.”

Yesterday Psaki warned the administration was about to take action against speech. But she was vague about what they planned to do. “Decisions to regulate or hold to account any platform would certainly be a policy decision, but in the interim, we’re going to continue to call out disinformation, and call out where that information travels,” said Psaki.

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy’s report, titled “Confronting Health Misinformation,” that CBS referenced in its tweet listed eight recommendations for technology platforms. In the report, Murthy recommended that technology platforms “[g]ive researchers access to useful data to properly analyze the spread and impact of misinformation.” It also recommended that technology companies “[s]trengthen the monitoring of misinformation.”

Big Tech has censored so-called COVID-19 misinformation at the behest of government before. Early in the pandemic, Facebook and its fact-checkers censored claims that COVID-19 was manufactured in a laboratory in Wuhan, China. The platform later reversed its position “[i]n light of ongoing investigations into the origin of COVID-19.”

YouTube reportedly deleted a COVID-19 roundtable from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), which featured testimony from several doctors. Twitter also removed a tweet from Dr. Martin Kulldorff that questioned the efficacy of masks. The platform also blocked Intellectual Dark Web member and podcast host Joe Rogan from sending a link which included a video about Ivermectin to one of his friends in a direct message.

Conservatives are under attack. Bogus Claims, Political Perfidy From So-Called Poor People’s Campaign

The Poor People’s Campaign has announced a “season of nonviolent, moral direct action,” targeting the U.S. Senate with disruptive activities every Monday, now through Aug 2.

According to the campaign’s co-chair, the Rev. William Barber II, “The Senate must end the filibuster, protect and expand voting rights, and pass a minimum wage of $15 an hour.” Barber is getting national attention. Even President Joe Biden recorded a video expressing his support.

Concern about poverty is something we all share.  What bothers me is that the factors driving poverty, according to the research of my organization and others, are ignored by the Poor People’s Campaign. And the issues on which they choose to focus either have nothing to do with the reality of poverty or actually make things worse.

It may surprise Barber that the Senate filibuster is a powerful tool to protect minority interests.  He is either confused or disingenuous when he claims abolishing the Senate filibuster is about protecting “democracy.” It is not democracy he cares about, but Democrats—who now control the government—being able to pass every piece of far-left, big-government legislation they want.

The only thing that stands in their way is the 60-vote requirement of the Senate filibuster. The history of our American democracy is that government changes hands all the time. When Republicans are running the show, as they will again, Barber will direct his heavenly prayers to save the filibuster so that Democrats can prevent Republicans from doing whatever they want.

It is the filibuster in the Senate that prevents passage of the For the People Act, the voting and election “reform” legislation, House Resolution 1, that passed in the House without a single Republican vote.

Although HR 1 is being labelled as “voting rights” legislation, it addresses many more aspects of election law than just voting. The legislation eviscerates actions that Republican states have moved on to reduce voter fraud, such as voter-ID laws and stopping vote harvesting. But it also moves the federal government into a host of other areas, such as defining political speech and the organization of the Federal Election Commission.

The issue here is not to debate election law, but to ask what this has to do with poverty and why it is such a priority for the Poor People’s Campaign.

In the current Congress, there are 60 African-American senators and representatives in the House. In 1964, there were five. Per The Wall Street Journal’s Jason Riley, who is black, in 1970, nationwide, there were fewer than 1,500 black elected officials. Today, there are more than 10,000.

In the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, the black turnout rate was higher than white turnout. Yet in 2019, the average black poverty rate was more than 2-1/2 times higher than the white poverty rate. There is little evidence that black poverty has persisted over the past half-century because black Americans have not been able to accumulate political power or express their will on Election Day.

Regarding the minimum wage, economic logic and economic facts show that the higher the minimum wage, the more low-wage jobs disappear. Raising the minimum wage is a great tool to make poverty worse, not better.

What can make a difference? In 2019, the average poverty rate among American households was 9%. The average poverty rate in black households headed by a married couple was 6.4%, per Statistica. However, the average poverty rate in black households headed by a single woman was 29.5%, and 41% of black households were headed by single women.

But the Poor People’s Campaign has nothing to say about the data connecting family breakdown and abortion to poverty. Many Americans do understand this connection, including my organization, CURE. So, when the Poor People’s Campaign storms the Senate over the next four weeks with bogus claims, we hope our elected officials will heed other voices.

African American Studies Professor: Berry’s So-Called American History All Wet

Embattled U.S. Olympic hammer thrower Gwen Berry is getting blowback for vilifying America as a nation of so-called “systemic racism.” She repeated that claim in a Black News Channel (BNC) interview, and a University of Michigan professor is disputing her spurious claims.

Berry turned her back on the flag during the national anthem at last week’s U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon. Then she covered her face with an “activist athlete” shirt, sparking national outrage.

“My purpose and my mission is bigger than sports,” Berry said in the BNC interview. “I’m here to represent those … who died due to systemic racism. That’s the important part. That’s why I’m going. That’s why I’m here today.”

The U.S. hammer thrower claims she “never said that I hated the country. I never said that. All I said was I respect my people enough to not stand for or acknowledge something that disrespects them. I love my people. Point blank, period.”

Berry criticized the Star-Spangled Banner because it allegedly glorifies slavery. Especially catching them and beating them:

“If you know your history, you know the full song of the national anthem, the third paragraph speaks to slaves in America, our blood being slain…all over the floor. It’s disrespectful and it does not speak for Black Americans. It’s obvious. There’s no question.”

The national anthem lyrics in question say: “No refuge could save the hireling and slave. From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave. O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

At least one academic believes Berry doesn’t know what she’s talking about. He’s Dr. Mark Clague, an associate professor of musicology, American culture, and African American Studies at the University of Michigan. He says those lyrics speak to the “threat directed at the African American slaves who defected to the British during the War of 1812 in order to attain freedom.” Francis Scott Key, who wrote the Star-Spangled Banner, was disparaging British slaves, not African American slaves. Dr. Clague told the New York Times:

“The reference to slaves is about the use, and in some sense the manipulation, of black Americans to fight for the British, with the promise of freedom. The American forces included African-Americans as well as whites. The term ‘freemen,’ whose heroism is celebrated in the fourth stanza, would have encompassed both.”

Or it may have been addressing mercenaries (“hirelings”) fighting for the British, as the Hessians did in the War for Independence, and it may be referring to British subjects as slaves: a hyperbolic but common sentiment among Americans just a generation removed from the Revolution.

Regardless, is it any wonder that woke athletes don’t know our history of the British forcing slavery on the American colonies? When the left-stream media, schools and the 1619 Project are pushing critical race theory and distorting our history? N-O.

Cong. Dan Crenshaw (Rep-Texas) has called for Berry to be removed from the U.S. Olympic team for her despicable activism. “We don’t need any more activist athletes,” he told Fox & Friends. “She should be removed from the team. The entire point of the Olympic team is to represent the United States of America. It’s the entire point.”

Right. Woke activist athletes should be at home while Americans with pride in their country are representing the greatest country in history next month in the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Trump-backed Max Miller targets ‘so-called Republican’ in Ohio congressional battle

Rep. Anthony Gonzalez is a political lemon.

That’s the assessment of Max Miller, the Republican who launched a primary challenge against Mr. Gonzalez after former President Trump called for the scalps of GOP lawmakers that supported impeachment following the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Mr. Miller says voters in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District were sold a bill of goods about Mr. Gonzalez being a fighter, but now they have buyer’s remorse after watching him turn his back on Mr. Trump and the MAGA movement.

“I have no other interest in doing this other than to serve the people of the 16th District and get an ‘America First’ conservative in Congress and get one who is a so-called Republican out,” Mr. Miller told The Washington Times.

The 32-year-old former Trump aide became more of a household name in February when Mr. Trump gave him his “Complete and Total Endorsement!” and warned that Mr. Gonzalez does not represent the “interest” or “heart” of voters in the district.

Mr. Trump is set to sing the challenger’s praises Saturday at Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington, Ohio, marking his first campaign-style rally of the 2022 election cycle.

A son of Cuban immigrants, Mr. Gonzalez starred as a wide receiver at Ohio State and played five years in the NFL before winning his seat in the 2018 election.

Mr. Gonzalez ran unopposed in the 2020 primary and cruised to reelection over his Democratic rival with 63% of the vote.

The Gonzalez campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

In previous interviews, the 36-year-old congressman said he was well aware of what he was getting into when he backed impeachment.

“I’m not an idiot,” Mr. Gonzalez told NBC News this year. “I understand what this vote means and what it could potentially mean for my political career.

“Over the long arc of history,” he said, “I believe that this is the right vote, and I believe it sends the right message to all future presidents and anybody who considers taking the Oval Office.”

The Ohio GOP censured Mr. Gonzalez and the nine other House Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching Mr. Trump for inciting the events of Jan. 6.

Mr. Miller told The Times that Mr. Gonzalez‘s betrayals go beyond that, pointing to his support for a nonbinding resolution condemning Mr. Trump‘s withdrawal of forces from Northern Syria, and Mr. Miller‘s support for a bill that opponents warn will grant amnesty to farm workers that entered the country illegally.

“It is not just his one vote in which he betrayed his own people,” Mr. Miller, a former Marine, said. “There’s several of them that he will need to acknowledge and people will go, ‘Wow, is this guy a true conservative?”

Still, it is no secret that without the impeachment vote, Mr. Gonzalez‘s political career would be in far less jeopardy.

“If he loses, it is because of that vote — there is no question,” said Doug Deeken, chair of the Wayne County Republican Party in Ohio. “Aside from that vote, he has been a very good congressman.”

Mr. Deeken said he likes Mr. Gonzalez, but “vigorously” disagrees with that vote.

“It is a self-inflicted injury on his part and potentially a career-ending self-inflicted injury,” he said.

Mr. Gonzalez also voted last week for a bill to award Congressional Gold Medals — one of the highest civilian honors — to the U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies that protected the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 from a “mob of insurrectionists.”

The proposal was opposed by 21 Republicans, including some of the most pro-Trump members of the lower chamber.

Mr. Miller said he‘d have to “brush up” on the bill before weighing in and said as a general rule he supports law enforcement.

He also made it clear he thinks “what happened on January 6 was not an insurrection.’”

The scope of the challenge Mr. Gonzalez faces will remain unclear until the state draws new congressional maps. The process has yet to start.

“It is really hard to say whether Max Miller can beat Anthony Gonzalez in a primary or not,” Mr. Deeken said. “It is possible.”

“It is also possible they will draw some sort of horseshoe-shaped suburban district around Cleveland that will help Anthony Gonzalez,” he said. “We are not even reading tea leaves. We don’t even know what sort of tea is in the box.”

Mr. Miller said he is optimistic the new congressional map will help him.

“Everything we are hearing from the bipartisan commission down in Columbus is that the district is going more red,” he said. “The way we in the campaign see that is it is more advantageous to us because people already have a predetermined judgment in their head about what they think of Anthony Gonzalez, which is somebody who betrays their voters and constituents and does their own thing.

“So I look at it as Anthony has to go ahead and court all of these red voters who are mostly Trump supporters and try to win back their faith, trust and confidence,” he said. “I think that is a very, very, tall task for Anthony Gonzalez to do.”

The Gonzalez campaign’s latest finance report showed he was sitting on more than $1 million after pulling in more than $600,000 million over the first quarter of the year.

Mr. Miller, meanwhile, had $438,000 cash on hand, showing he is no fundraising slouch.

Those campaign coffers are expected to get a boost from the Trump visit.

Shannon Burns, president of the Strongsville GOP, said Mr. Trump‘s return to the area is going to make it impossible for Mr. Gonzalez to hide from his impeachment vote.

Anthony Gonzalez has one strategy to win his election and that is hoping that you forget and we are here to make sure people don’t forget what his vote was,” Mr. Burns said.

“The voters of this district have seen what they thought was a true Republican representing them and recognized too late that the person they thought they had standing up for them wasn’t really fighting for them,” he said.
