Hideki Matsuyama made history Sunday evening, capturing the Masters to become the first Japanese golfer to win a major PGA tournament.

Matsuyama finished with a 10-under 278, besting Masters rookie Will Zalatoris by one stroke. The champion had to survive a shot in the water at the 15th that left him with a bogey.

A five-time winner on the PGA Tour, Matsuyama took control with a sizzling 65 on a rain-delayed Saturday.
