The nephew of Food Network star Ree Drummond is in critical condition following a head-on collision in Oklahoma on Wednesday, officials said.
Caleb Drummond — whose aunt hosts “The Pioneer Woman” cooking show — and Ree’s husband Ladd Drummond were driving separate trucks while fighting a blaze that broke out at the family ranch in Pawhuska when they crashed into each other, KJRH-TV reported.
Caleb, 21, was thrown 70 feet from the truck, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
He suffered head, arm and leg injuries, as well as internal bleeding, and was taken to Tulsa medical center in critical condition, TMZ reported.
Ladd, 57, refused medical attention at the scene.
Both men were driving the family’s trucks to respond to grass fires that had broken out at the Drummond ranch, Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
Caleb was driving southbound on County Road N3660, while Ladd was driving northbound, authorities said.
Highway Patrol said there was low visibility Wednesday afternoon due to high winds — causing both trucks to crash head-on along the gravel road.
The nephew was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, TMZ reported.
The area in Oklahoma has seen a recent uptick in grass fires, which scorched more than 200 acres surrounding the Drummond family farm in Osage County on Wednesday, News on 6 reported.
